Where Fields Go Fallow One-Page RPG
A downloadable game
The One-Pager Version
Something followed the war back home.
Where Fields Go Fallow One-Pager RPG is a short, free one-page version of the sharp folk-horror RPG with the same name about ordinary villagers who must band together to fight a monstrous remnant of the Autumn War – something twisted by chimeromancy, stitched from sorcery, beasts, and nightmares, and now drawn to your hamlet by the scent of life.
You play as farmers, herders, and smiths – not heroes. You have no magic, no tactics, no grand plan. But you have the land. The village. And each other. You will fight together. And not all of you will return.
What is this?
This is the updated version of the One-Page RPG Jam 2024 submission of Where Fields Go Fallow, formerly titled PITCHFORK. It is a free, standalone microgame, and the seed from my upcoming UNTETHERED monster-hunting game.
It runs on the lightweight OGREISH narrative framework – a story-driven system of dice pools, narrative outcomes, and facets – that enable conversations with mechanical implications.
Where Fields Go Fallow stands between village horror and communal defiance. It offers a short-form experience ideal for one-shots or con play, while hinting at deeper stories beneath the soil.
What kind of experience does it provide?
- Play villagers, not heroes – you are underprepared, outmatched, but not alone
- Face a singular monster – a living relic of the war, unique every time
- Tell grounded stories – build your village together before it is threatened
- Use the OGREISH system – quick resolution, strong fiction, no combat turns
It is designed to evoke loss, tension, solidarity – and the bitter clarity of doing what must be done.
